Birchblogger event at Atelier Cologne: Review!

Hello, darlings!

I was recently invited to a Birchbox event at Atelier Cologne's boutique in NOLITA, and let me tell you, I was blown away by the whole setup!

I am, by no means, a perfume/cologne connoisseur. I don't know the first thing about perfume. I know, I'm a horrible beauty blogger.

Commercial fragrances generally plague me with horrible headaches. I always have to pick scents carefully, and hope for the best. Most days I just power-thru a horrible migraine in the name of smelling divine.

I didn't know there was another way - a headache-free way to smell fresh everyday.

Enter Atelier Cologne.

For starters, I didn't know the cologne was meant to be a unisex term. We've Americanized the term, and are taught that cologne is for men only! For example, the scent I decided to take home with me - Rose Anonyme - is quite popular with BOTH sexes.

Atelier Cologne creates & sells Cologne Absolue..

"The Cologne Absolue celebrates the elegance of citruses, the traditional ingredients of a cologne. For the first time, citruses are blended with the most precious raw materials in perfumery for perfectly balanced creations with outstanding lasting power thanks to very high concentrations of essential oils. Each Cologne Absolue tells the story of treasured emotions and powerful memories."
I love this. I was basically sold the second I was taught about Cologne Absolue.

I was able to sample every fragrance that Atelier Cologne sells - and was absolutely shocked at how complex & beautiful each scent was. The chemistry & story behind each scent was enthralling, and downright intoxicating.

**Intoxicating in a good way - these cologne's do NOT cause me strife! HEADACHE-FREE! Want to know why? Atelier Cologne limits the amount of synthetic oils & other synthetic ingredients that usually go into creating a fragrance. AMAZING! My headaches from other, commercial fragrances stemmed from their synthetic additives.

I eventually settled on a 30ml bottle of Rose Anonym (as stated previously).

I come from a long line of Roses. My Great Grandmother was named Rosina; my Grandmother is named Rosemarie; my middle name is Rose (Ashley Rose). I carry my Great Grandmother with me everyday. She was the one who taught me how to love myself, and most importantly, she taught me how to embrace & love my curly hair.

The second I spritzed some Rose Anonym on my hand I was immediately transported to my Great Grandmother's Hollis, Queens apartment. I was at her dining room table, eating raviolis, and talking to her about my life, my work, my hair.

The moment I picked Rose Anonym it clicked - this is what Cologne Absolue is about. This is what Atelier Cologne is about. It's about that scent memory, a fragrance that transports you to another place or another time. It's about having a connection with how you smell. It's about knowing how important that connection to your fragrance is. If you don't have that connection with your perfume, that memory to your scent, well, then you haven't found the right one yet!

I'd like to thank Birchbox & Atelier Cologne for inviting me to this event. I always used to carry my Great Grandmother along with me through memories, but now I am blessed to have an extra sensory connection with her that will carry me through my day.

Popsugar Must Have Box - February 2014 - REVIEW!

There has been much discussion over this month's Popsugar Must Have box...

A lot of us are still living in the Popsugar "glory days" (circa 2012) where box after box was a major hit. We were surprised, delighted & awed by a few months in a row.

And then in 2013 subscribers argued that Popsugar was slipping, and now that it's 2014, Popsugar still has many a disgruntled customer.

Let me just say I am an avid Popsugar supporter. I am happy to be a subscriber because I like how Popsugar incorporates lifestyle, beauty, health & fashion all in one box. Of course, some items are hit or miss, but isn't that the same for most subscription boxes out there?

We subscribe for the surprise, even though most of us cannot keep away from spoilers. This box is not for everyone, but if each box makes you happy then that's fine. Enjoy it.

Contents:
  • Gorjana Brooks Jewelry Roll - Red - This is adorable! I have a jewelry roll already so I will most likely gift this. Perfect for a Valentines gift to a friend. We also received a Gorjana gift card for $25.00 - but it cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions.
  • Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum - I think I am a nerd because this is my favorite item from the box. My winter skin needs every ounce of hydration it can get from this Argan serum.
  • K Hall Designs Peony Travel Candle - This is a very cute candle that has a burn time of 20 hours. I will most likely gift this as well.
  • Modelco Lip Pops Duo Lip Gloss & Lipstick - At first I was thinking I'd gift this, but this duo seems like a nice nude lip color. I am definitely going to try it out!
  • Sugarwish Mini Red Cinnamon Hearts - We also received a Sugarwish discount card in this box - 20% off.
  • NCLA Rodeo Drive Royalty Nail Polish - What is it with this month? NCLA products in every box! LOL! I am not the biggest nail polish fan, but I do love the color of this polish. Maybe I'll keep it for myself?
  • Dial Vitamin Boost Body Wash - This is labeled a "special extra" which isn't too shabby. I complained about having Dial in the box at first, but this body wash smells delicious! This will go straight into my shower.
Verdict:

Like I said before, I am a huge Popsugar fan, so I liked this box. I generally like every box, even when they supposedly stink. Even though I won't use everything in the box, I gained some great items to gift.

What did you think? Will you be subbing to Popsugar? Did you like this months box?

Blush Mystery Beauty Box - February 2014 - REVIEW!

Wow! Today I looked outside and found both my Blush Mystery Beauty Box & my Popsugar Must Have Box on my doorstep.

Let's start with the Blush Beauty Box!

Blush is $24.95/month & you receive a super amazing value.

I love how lately they have been supplying a lot of great brands such as NYX, Klorane & NCLA. Klorane is my absolute favorite - I've sampled their dry shampoo through Birchbox, but luckily Blush has been giving FULL-SIZE Klorane haircare products.

Contents:
  • NYX - Are You DeprEYEved of...Long & Full Lashes Mascara - Jet Black - I have been DYING to try out this mascara! Recently I went back to Diorshow mascara - my jam in high school & college - and for some reason it's not working the way it used to. I cannot wait to see if this NYX mascara is my makeup soulmate!
  • NCLA - Nail Wraps - Pizzo - I am very MEH about nail wraps - I usually gift them. I am uncoordinated so I can't seem to get the wraps on & keep them looking nice.
  • Klorane - Dry Shampoo with Nettle - YAY! I got this as a sample in last month's Birchbox so I am happy to have the full size version.
  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil - I used to have the full size of this oil. It's a great & gentle way to clear your skin of makeup & other impurities. Great for winter skin!
  • Elizabeth Arden - Untold Eau de Parfum - Can I just say this is the cutest little glass bottle of perfume I have ever seen.
  • Vbeaute - Rub Off Gentle Facial Exfoliator - This is a "coconut-derived cleansing agent" that rids your face of dead skin cells. This should be fun to try!
  • Bioxidea - Miracle 48 - Excellence Gold - This is a very fancy face mask - perfect for relaxing on a Sunday night.
  •  Jonathan - Finish Control High Shine Flexible Hairspray - This hairspray is 100% vegan & has cucumber/rose essential water to nourish hair while holding style. Most hairsprays dry my hair out, so this might be my new go to hair product!
Verdict:

This box is always a great surprise & a great value. I love all the products this month - some of them are perfect for gifting! I will keep you posted on the mascara & how it works.

What do you think? Will you be subbing to this box?

Thursday Thoughts!

  • I cannot wait for the Olympics! For some reason I wind up aimlessly watching every mundane competition day in & day out...I find it entertaining/it makes me feel patriotic. USA! USA!
  • Favorite Sochi tweet thus far?
  • I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond last night, and let me tell you, the Beyond is the best part of that store. I picked up sealed mason jar travel cups, Starbucks k-cups, kitten (Lenox) shaped salt & pepper shakers, and zebra print slippers. True necessities!
  • I wound up ordering the new Oreo varieties from Amazon the other night. No joke. Shout-out to Jen on this one - saw you wrote about this on your Thursday Thoughts :-)
  • Stalking the MUT Popsugar Must Have Forum - Spoilers should be available today! Do not read the forum if you are staying spoiler free this month! I, for one, do not have the will power to stay spoiler free.
  • I re-subbed to I-Ella's The List today! Thought it would be the perfect way to treat myself this month.
  • The other day I was super worried when my cat, Chairman Meow, was running around the house. I noticed that his belly hung down & flapped back and forth as he ran (sorry for the TMI!). I started freaking out - is it worms? is he dying? I tend to get all, "worst-case-scenario", crazy when it comes to my furbabies. Turns out this hanging belly is NORMAL! Whhhaaaaattt? It's called the primordial pouch. I swear, this is an actual thing, and is passed down from cats regal ancestors. The more you know...
  • Oh, also thought Chairman was dead the other day. I went upstairs & saw him sprawled out on the carpet. I spooked him to make sure he woke up. Turns out he is a ridiculously smart cat. Heat rises, so the upstairs carpet's fluffiness absorbs the heat & warms Chairs up while he rests. I'm about to take a nap on the upstairs carpet.

GLOSSYBOX - la prairie Special Edition Box - Review!

I haven't been a subscriber to GLOSSYBOX for a really long time, but when I saw that they had partnered with Switzerland's own la prairie I had no choice but to purchase whatever limited edition box they created together.

Contents:
  • NEW - Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil - The packaging on this is so gorgeous - I don't even want to use it! This is a dry oil that "supports your skin's natural lipid barrier function" & seals in moisture. Full size retails at $300/1 oz. In the box I received .17 oz of product.
  • NEW - Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Creme - The packaging is complimentary to the dry oil. "This glistening, moisture-rich cream melts instantly into you skin, immediately helping to restore its youthful appearance." Full size retails at $300/1.7 oz. I received .23 oz of product.
  • Foam Cleanser - This is a mousse cleanser that helps cleanse & hydrate your skin. Sounds perfect for winter! Full size retails at $75/4.2 oz. I received 1.7 oz of product.
  • Cellular Refining Lotion - This is an alcohol-free toner that completes the cleansing process & flushes out pores. Full size retails at $95/8.4 oz. I received 2.0 oz of product.
  • Essence of Skin Caviar Eye Complex - This product claims to act like a mini eyelift. Full size retails at $135/.5 oz. I received .17 oz of product.
Verdict:

Due to the fact that this is such a high-end & highly coveted brand, I definitely felt this box was worth it. I get to try all the products & see if any works for me. The goal of this box was to provide an entire regimen for skincare buffs to test out. I honestly can't see myself spending $300 on the dry oil & crystal creme - but if I happen to like the cleanser and the toner, I can definitely see myself splurging to buy full size versions.

Thursday Thoughts!

I haven't linked up in a while, so I figured I'd give it a try on this final Thursday in January!

  • I did not watch Miley Cyrus's Unplugged special, but I did view a clip of her singing Jolene. If you can get beyond the ridiculous costume she's wearing, you can enjoy the way Miley pays homage to her roots (video embedded at the end of this post).
  •  I took the plunge and will be attending BeautyCon 2014 in NYC! It's on May 24th - at least there's a chance the weather will be nice & warm! Usually this event is only held on the west coast, so I'm pretty excited I'll be attending the east coast rendition.
  • I understand that this is the age of YouTube & internet over-saturation - but does anyone else find it weird that we've already had access to some of the biggest Super Bowl ads? I've watched the Budweiser one with the puppy & Clydesdale & bawled my eyes out. I've watched the greek yogurt/Full House reunion (very MEH, they could've done a better job). I've watched the banned Scarlett Johansson SodaStream commercial where she uttered the names Coke & Pepsi (FOR SHAME!). What's left? THE MYSTERY IS GONE & I HAVE NO WILL POWER....
  • My grandfather has been going to sleep at 1:00 PM everyday...I can't tell if it's because he's legitimately tired or he's just anti-social. Either way, I am really jealous of him.
  • Juicy Couture made a sport line? Interesting. Lately I've been hooked on Old Navy's Athletic collection, but maybe I'll give JC a try...
  • I need new running sneakers that have some cushion - my problem is I hit the ground hard, and my current New Balance sneakers don't absorb the shock. Any ideas?
